About us
Samskip is a truly international company that innovates the most advanced sustainable and multimodal international transport solutions. With a turnover of more than 800 million euros, 1450 employees and offices in 24 countries (in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia) we are one of the largest transport companies in Europe. Within this structure, Samskip has shaped a comprehensive European network for short-sea, road, rail and inland waterway transport. This network provides pioneering sustainable, reliable and cost-effective options for the growing number of customers who demand more environmentally conscious logistics solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Actively arrange and book customs clearance, handlings/reloads, shunts and transports,
- be in close contact with shippers, suppliers and consignees about the deliveries,
- make sure that regulations are followed (for example regarding an unbroken cold chain, permissions for household garbage import etc.),
- find ways to optimize the operation (for example aiming to reduce container plugin times at terminals & storage times in warehouses to lower our cost) and transport routes (e.g. by obtaining quotes, finding new suppliers and effective ways to get the cargo to the destination).
- Participate in development of the team and active support with implementation of improvements, new systems/automatization and KPI tracking
- Come up with own ideas what KPIs to measure and how, and report these for long-term insights
- Collect regular feedback and input from Customer service coordinators in the import team to maintain a good atmosphere and make sure everyone’s opinion is heard
Requirements:
- Fluent English mandatory, any other language is a benefit (especially Dutch, German, Spanish or Portuguese)
- Some years of experience in logistics or supply chain management, especially in containerized sea freight & truck transport; decent understanding of Incoterms (shipping terms)
- Education in logistics, business or related fields is a plus (but not a hard requirement if experience is there)
- Understanding of cost and importance of operational efficiency, especially for perishable cargo; willingness to sometimes “go the extra mile” to arrange things out of the ordinary
- Understanding of rules and regulations regarding imports & customs clearance of cargo from outside the EU and in transit (or willingness to learn)
- Customer-focused mindset, positive attitude towards clients, coworkers & suppliers, even in stressful moments
- Own initiative and independent working methods. The ability and willingness to use (emotional) intelligence to interact at all levels, to promote collaboration and sustain relationship with colleagues & business partners to influence business results and to find the approach that seeks win-win.
- Confidence and character to take on leadership of a small team of relatively young people from different countries.
- Willingness to travel within the UK and occasionally internationally.
