Freight Forwarding
The Team Leader is responsible for ensuring Jónar Transport hf’s customers receive high-quality, personalized service, and that all operations are executed efficiently, safely, and in a timely manner. The Team Leader plays a crucial role in maintaining the company’s reputation for reliability and excellent service.
Key Responsibilities:

Oversee and ensure that all tasks related to the Import Sea & Export and Forwarding Departments are completed correctly and on time.

Serve Jónar Transport hf’s customers by providing excellent service and forwarding sales leads to the sales department.
-
Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers, including contracting, bidding, and identifying sales opportunities.
-
Promote and sell additional services offered by Jónar Transport hf and its parent company.
-
Maintain clear and professional communication with internal and external customers.
-
Fully understand Jónar Transport hf’s contracts and special offers, making operational decisions accordingly to benefit customers.
-
Provide customers with accurate and timely information to support their needs.
-
Accurately enter transport order details, Bills of Lading (BL), invoices, and other documentation into the transport system.
-
Handle BL registration, booking arrival notices, manifests, and routing orders promptly.
-
Oversee and control departmental costs, including shipping charges and supplier costs.
-
Ensure customer-specific agreements are properly registered in the CRM and transport system.
-
Identify operational improvement opportunities and propose optimization strategies.
-
Maintain effective communication with other departments within Jónar Transport, Samskip, and subsidiaries.
-
Ensure timely issuance of invoices and cost entry within the department.
-
Liaise with customs, ocean and road carriers, ports, terminals, agents, and other relevant stakeholders.
-
Adhere to established procedures and company policies.
-
Maintain a neat and professional work environment, including appropriate dress code.
-
Uphold GDP (Good Distribution Practice) pharmaceutical standards when applicable.
-
Provide departmental coverage in cases of absence and undertake necessary additional tasks.
-
Ensure that employees receive necessary training and encouragement for professional performance.
-
Contribute to department development, making suggestions for improved services and workflows.
-
Implement work processes and new computer systems, participating in related projects.
-
Assist in annual goal setting, planning, and company quality initiatives.
-
Conduct data analysis and reporting from transport systems.
Qualifications & Skills:

Education: University degree and/or relevant job experience in logistics, transportation, or a related field.

Competency:
-
Strong professional communication skills with partners, suppliers, clients, and colleagues.

Ability to diligently follow up on transport and projects, including supervision and reporting.

Technical Skills:
-
Strong knowledge of transportation systems or the ability to learn quickly.
-
Excellent analytical skills for data interpretation from IT systems.
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and other relevant systems.

Industry Experience:
-
Experience in the transport/logistics industry.

Knowledge of import/export operations.

Language Skills:

Required: Excellent oral and written English proficiency.

Preferred: Dutch, French, Icelandic, and/or German.
